Le Cric

La Coopérative, Le CRIC, is a printing house and publishing workshop located in Marly, near Fribourg. Founded in 1984 as a centre for critical reflection and information, it later became a cooperative that designs and prints graphic and editorial projects for clients across Switzerland, while remaining deeply committed to its original philosophy.

At Le CRIC, book printing is carried out entirely in-house. Each publication runs on their own presses, with particular care given to paper, ink, rhythm, and finishing. Their work places strong emphasis on print quality and on original subjects, projects that deserve attention and thoughtful production.

What makes La Coopérative distinctive is not only the quality of its printing, but also the way the workshop operates. There is no hierarchy. Everyone receives the same salary, higher than industry standards, with remuneration evolving according to seniority. Decisions are made collectively, and work and responsibilities are shared.

Sustainability here is a lived, everyday reality. The team works locally, lives nearby, and often travels by bicycle. Lunch is prepared and shared together, using local products. Deliveries within the region are made by cargo bike. Solar panels installed on the building now cover a significant portion of the workshop’s energy needs. Paper offcuts are reused, donated, transformed, or recycled directly within the production chain.

The notebook included in our Creative Pause set was printed and bound at Le CRIC. It is designed to open flat, using high-quality recycled paper and a Swiss binding.
