Caran d'Ache

Founded in Geneva in 1915, Caran d’Ache is an emblematic Swiss house of art supplies and writing instruments, deeply rooted in its region of origin. For more than a century, the company has upheld a demanding vision of Swiss craftsmanship, grounded in material quality, precision of gesture, and creative expression.

What sets Caran d’Ache apart is the combination of artisanal excellence, technical mastery, and innovation. In its Geneva workshops, more than 90 different professions come together: master lacquerers, polishers, precision mechanics, and specialists in leads and pigments. These rare skills, increasingly difficult to sustain in Switzerland and Europe, remain essential to the quality and singularity of Caran d’Ache products. Each material is carefully guided through every stage of production so that every pencil, pen, or tool offers a remarkable quality of line, texture, and colour.

A process that may appear simple at first glance reveals a high level of complexity. A single coloured pencil, for example, requires no fewer than 35 production steps. This level of care reflects the attention to detail and the respect for time needed to create instruments that are reliable, durable, and a pleasure to use. Innovation naturally follows this foundation, particularly through the development of pigments and watercolour pencils, allowing Caran d’Ache to support creative practices at every level, from first explorations to more established artistic work, while remaining faithful to local and responsible production.

For Maison Myrthus, we chose the Rylsee × Caran d’Ache lettering set for its ability to bring together object and experience. The collaboration between Caran d’Ache and Swiss artist Rylsee was built around a precise dialogue on line, rhythm, and the energy of drawing. Every element of the set was designed to remain true to his universe, while respecting the high standards, quality, and craftsmanship that define Caran d’Ache. Combining premium tools with an online course, the set invites both beginners and more experienced users to explore gesture, movement, and creative expression.
